Privacy Policy for the Collection and Protection of Personal Information

Velvet is committed to protecting your privacy. The privacy policy below is intended to transparently inform you of the practices adopted by Velvet Santé Animale Inc. (“Velvet”) regarding the collection and use of personal information.

Collection and Use of Personal Information

Velvet collects and uses various personal information from clients and other individuals (the “individuals concerned”).

Types of Personal Information

Velvet may collect and retain personal information such as first and last names, contact information (mailing and email addresses, telephone number), date of birth, and information relating to payments made. Velvet only collects the personal information necessary for the purposes described in the section below.

Collection of Personal Information

Velvet collects personal information for various purposes. It may collect personal information in order to (i) provide the information requested by the individual concerned, (ii) subscribe the individual concerned, at their request, to a mailing list (including, in particular, modifying their subscription preferences and removing their name from the mailing list), (iii) notify individuals of a contest, or (iv) comply with applicable laws.

Velvet may also collect personal information to better understand the profile of the individuals concerned so that the information they receive is relevant, or to personalize this website in order to better meet the needs of the individuals concerned.

The amount and type of personal information collected is limited to what is necessary for the purposes for which it is collected and is collected directly from the individual concerned. Such information may, however, be collected from third parties where permitted by law.

Use of Collected Personal Information

Velvet uses the personal information collected as necessary, including to provide the services requested by the individual concerned, provide information requested by the individual concerned, send communications (newsletters and commercial offers), administer contests and award prizes to winners, or comply with its legal and regulatory obligations, as applicable.

Velvet may use personal information for other purposes that are communicated to the individual concerned, including at the time the information is collected.

Disclosure of Personal Information

Subject to the persons described below, Velvet does not disclose, communicate, or sell personal information for purposes other than those set out in this notice, unless the individual concerned consents or disclosure is permitted by law.

Personal information (electronic or otherwise) collected by Velvet is not disclosed to anyone other than Velvet’s representatives, service providers, or agents for whom such information is necessary to perform their duties or fulfill their contractual or other mandates. These may include, for example, hosting or data management services and market research providers.

For these purposes, Velvet or a third-party service provider may store and process your personal information on servers or computers located outside Canada. In addition, even if your personal information is stored in Canada, Velvet’s representatives or service providers may access or process your personal information from locations outside Canada. Some of these locations outside Canada may be subject to personal information laws or standards that differ from those in effect in Québec. Accordingly, in certain circumstances, your personal information may be disclosed to government authorities or law enforcement agencies that would not otherwise have access to your personal information if it were stored in Canada or were not accessible from a location outside Canada.

Velvet may also disclose, communicate, or sell personal information to the extent permitted or required by law, including pursuant to court orders, or where necessary to establish or exercise legal claims or defend against them.

Cookies and IP Addresses

Although an individual concerned may visit this website (the “Site”) without telling Velvet who they are or disclosing information that identifies them, accessing the Site automatically results in an exchange of information between the individual’s computer and Velvet’s server. This exchange of information does not enable Velvet to identify the individual by name or email address. However, it allows Velvet to obtain information such as the Internet domain name used to access the Site, the individual’s IP address, the type of browser and operating system used to access the Site, the date and time the individual accessed the Site, the pages visited, and, if the individual reached the Site from another website, the address of that website (the “referring site”).

The Site’s operating system may automatically collect this information about an individual’s visit through cookies. Cookies are small pieces of information stored by an individual’s Internet browser on their computer’s hard drive that allow Velvet to recognize the individual when they access the Site. When an individual browses the Internet, a cookie may be used for the purposes described above. If an individual does not wish for information about their visit to be collected by Velvet, they may, at their sole discretion, configure their browser to be notified when a cookie is received or to prevent such cookies from being sent.

Velvet uses this information for advertising purposes and to measure the number of visits to the Site and the various pages viewed, the average amount of time visitors spend on the Site, and to compile other statistics about Site visitors in general. This information also allows Velvet to monitor the Site’s performance, for system administration purposes, to make the Site easier and more convenient to use, and to provide certain aggregated information to Velvet representatives for whom receiving such information is necessary to perform their duties.

Velvet does not collect any other personal information about individuals visiting the Site unless they voluntarily choose to provide it.

Security

Velvet has implemented measures to protect the personal information in its custody, including against theft, loss, unauthorized access, use, and disclosure, through reasonable technical, administrative, and physical security measures, taking into account, among other factors, the sensitivity of the information, the purposes for which it is used, its quantity, distribution, and format. The level of protection provided will therefore vary depending on the personal information concerned.

Accordingly, where appropriate, Velvet uses encryption or authentication tools, or both, as well as other methods to protect certain personal information transmitted over the Internet and stored on its servers.

In addition, online access by an individual to certain personal information may be protected by a username or password chosen by that individual. Velvet strongly advises individuals not to share their username or password with anyone. Velvet will never request an individual’s password in an unsolicited message. Finally, the individual acknowledges and agrees that emails sent to Velvet are not necessarily secure or protected from interception before reaching Velvet’s servers.

Opting Out and Modifying Personal Information

An individual concerned may access the personal information they have provided to Velvet and notify Velvet of any updates, as well as request that certain information collected by Velvet be modified or deleted, by emailing contact@velvetsanteanimale.ca or by replying to messages they receive as a result of their subscription to Velvet’s mailing list.

Similarly, an individual concerned may request to unsubscribe from Velvet’s mailing list.
